Advanced Veterinary Endoscopy & Laparoscopy at AMNC

At Animal Medical of New City (AMNC) in Rockland County, NY, we bring advanced technology and compassionate care together through veterinary endoscopy and laparoscopy. These minimally invasive techniques allow us to diagnose and treat a wide range of conditions in pets—with less pain, faster recovery, and better outcomes.

What Is Veterinary Endoscopy?

Veterinary endoscopy uses specialized, high-definition instruments to examine and treat internal organs through small or natural openings—without large surgical incisions. These tools allow our team to navigate the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, urinary tract, and other areas with real-time video precision.

Benefits of veterinary endoscopy and laparoscopy:

  • Minimal or no incisions
  • Lower risk of complications
  • Shortened anesthesia and recovery times
  • Reduced post-operative pain
  • Most pets go home the same day

Minimally Invasive Procedures We Offer

At AMNC, we offer a wide range of minimally invasive veterinary procedures that reduce surgical trauma while delivering excellent outcomes:

  • Gastrointestinal Endoscopy: Diagnose chronic vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, or retrieve swallowed foreign objects without surgery.
  • Capsule Camera Endoscopy: Swallowing a tiny camera photographing its journey through the gastrointestinal provides valuable insight into causes of chronic intestinal disease.
  • Laparoscopy for Pets: We offer a variety of advanced procedures, including
    • Laparoscopic Spay (Ovariectomy) for less pain and faster healing
    • Laparoscopic Cryptorchidectomy to safely remove undescended testicles
    • Minimally Invasive Gastropexy to prevent life-threatening bloat (GDV) in large or deep-chested dogs
    • Organ Biopsies (liver, pancreas, kidney) without major incisions
  • Video Otoscopy: Clear visualization and treatment of middle and inner ear infections
  • Rhinoscopy and Bronchoscopy: Evaluate chronic nasal discharge, sneezing, or persistent cough
  • Cystoscopy: Assess urinary tract issues such as recurrent infections, incontinence, or bladder stones

From Local Cases to Legendary Patients

Dr. Howard Gittelman, founder of AMNC, is known for his creative, minimally invasive approach to complex veterinary cases. That reputation led to a unique invitation from the Gorilla Foundation—he was asked to assist in a delicate endoscopic procedure involving Koko the gorilla, the world-famous primate known for her use of sign language. Koko had ingested a foreign object, and Dr Gittelman was asked to join the veterinary team tasked with retrieving it without surgery. Through a collaborative effort the team was successful in  removing the object using endoscopy, helping to avoid an invasive procedure and showcasing the power of minimally invasive techniques across species.

That same inventive approach helped save Dakota, a young miniature poodle who had swallowed a rubber superball. Rather than performing surgery, Dr. Gittelman used a custom retrieval device fashioned from a condom and a flexible endoscope to remove the object via the esophagus. Dakota was back home, tail wagging, the very same day.
