Bravecto

Is a tasty chewable tab that kills current infestations of fleas and ticks on dogs and prevents subsequent infections for 12 weeks (3 months).

Do not give the Bravecto chewable tab to dogs younger than 6 months of age or to cats.  A topical form of Bravecto is available for cats, but we do not stock it at our hospital. Sentinel

Sentinel is a flavored tab that protects against heartworm disease, a broad range of intestinal parasites, and fleas.  It’s important to note that it does not protect against ticks and in Rockland County, tick prevention is essential due to the high level of tick borne diseases we see in our area.  We recommend Sentinel as a convenient, year-round protection against fleas in association with an effective, veterinary approved collar like Scalibor.  Use the links at the bottom of this page to purchase Sentinel through our online store and to take advantage of special discounting.

Vectra 3D

Vectra 3D sticks out from the competition by acting as a repellent as well as an insect killer.  Vectra, applied monthly as a topical to your dog’s skin, kills and repels mosquitos (the source of heartworm disease), fleas and ticks.  It’s very important that you do not use Canine Vectra for cats.  A separate feline version of Vectra is available for purchase through our online store.

Seresto Tick Collar

One of the best on the market, this safe collar provides protection against fleas and ticks on dogs for 8 months.  Some pet owners use topical medications on their dog, but add the protection of a Seresto collar during walks in areas that are especially dense with ticks (brushy fields, wooded trails, etc.). Dogs can swim with the collar on, but some pet owners remove the collar while the pet is swimming, and then reattach it when the dog is dry.  Like the other products, do not use this product on cats, but purchase the Seresto collar specifically formulated for cats.
